It was overcast and within a few degrees of 70 for our 93-mile ride with 4,200 feet of climbing from Portsmouth, NH to Worcester, MA, but it stayed dry all morning. However, the forecast called for afternoon rain so I had an incentive to push hard and finish early. The first hour was foggy and my glasses were misty, but as the day and my lenses cleared I saw a few red leaves on the maples and sumacs. Thye hills separated the riders depending on how well they go up and down, and the Dairy Queens separated them further depending on how well they like ice cream. As it happened, I rode solo the last four hours and, though I had a few sprinkles in the last 20 minutes, I made it to the motel a half hour before the steady rain which lasted all afternoon and into the night. Thursday was good, Friday was better, and Saturday might be still better (or did the TV say wetter?)
